WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer, Scott Hefter, who will oversee the agency’s core business functions.

“Scott brings a wealth of experience modernizing business operations to help organizations better achieve their missions,” said Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. “His leadership will prove critical as we build the infrastructure needed for a stronger future for the agency and for national service.”

Mr. Hefter has more than 30 years of experience in organizational design, business transformation, and operations, working in more than 20 countries across the private, public, and social sectors throughout his career. As a leading consultant, Mr. Hefter has advised federal agencies in their transformation efforts including the U.S. Departments of Defense, Justice, Homeland Security, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs.

Prior to joining CNCS, Mr. Hefter served as the Chief Marketing and Business Officer of Abt Associates. He was formerly a Partner and Managing Director of Boston Consulting Group, where he led the development of its federal business unit. He also served as the CEO for PRTM, a global strategy and operations consulting firm and as the lead for Management Consulting for North America and Global Analytics for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

For the past year, Mr. Hefter has also served as a Fellow at Harvard University’s Advanced Leadership Initiative, a program for senior executives to study solutions to large-scale societal problems. His capstone project focused on national service as a “bridge to national healing, national pride, and a nod to our better angels.”

Mr. Hefter is a graduate of Connecticut College and received his Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University.
