Today, 63% of urban children and 71% of Hispanic and Black children enter kindergarten at risk of poor school outcomes, and most won't catch up nor graduate. YMCA of the USA will deploy 100 AmeriCorps members and 200 volunteers in up to 40 distressed communities to replicate an evidence-based early learning program and serve 25,000 low-income and diverse children under age 5. The program will help informal childcare providers, who are an untapped resource, prepare children for school.
