Executive Summary

Healthy Futures Network Planning Grant's Focus Area: Culturally appropriate health care interventions.

o The Chippewa Cree Tribe and the Rocky Boy Health Center, provides services to tribally enrolled members of the Chippewa Cree Tribe. Each department has begun the systems approach in providing a comprehensive system of care for the Rocky Boy Health Center's patients. We are in the preliminary stage of planning for the collaboration of system with a comprehensive system of care for the mental health patient.

o A strategic planning session has begun in October, 2010 and will continue for the next three months to elaborate a broad strategic plan for the Rocky Boy Health Center.

o The Healthy Futures Network planning grant will develop a strategic plan in the first three months specifically focusing on comprehensive culturally appropriate health care interventions within the Chippewa Cree Tribe.

A lead coordinator and cultural consultant will collaborate together to develop a comprehensive systems approach for culturally appropriate health care interventions with the Healthy Futures network, utilizing the Chippewa Cree Tribe's values and beliefs systems to meet the needs of the client/patient in the Rocky Boy community. The main focus is to bring together the Chippewa Cree's best practices (already documented with Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) and implement a process that fits the system in place to provide culturally appropriate health care that is a collaboration of systems and comprehensive. Then once the foundation is established, it will be ready to implement, based on the development and enhancement of the existing system. We will have as an outcome, an operational plan that brings together the three components of 1) community culturally appropriate health care interventions and/or culturally appropriate provider needs assessment, 2) business, operation or strategic plans and 3) economic impact analysis plan. The community will work together to assess and analyze the systems intact in the Chippewa Cree community as well as the economic impact at the federal, state and local levels to utilize the resources available to build capacity for culturally appropriate health care for the Chippewa Cree Tribe's community.
