Chief Financial Officer

Malena Brookshire serves as the Chief Financial Officer for AmeriCorps. She brings more than 20 years of experience in strategy and risk management, organizational change, and financial modernization. Before joining AmeriCorps, Brookshire held senior leadership roles at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Office of Management and Budget, where she supported complex budget environments for the Department of Agriculture and Department of Defense.

While at the EPA, Brookshire created the agency’s first Enterprise Risk Management framework. She also implemented improvements to the agency’s audit management program and launched the agency’s first financial data governance board. Her visionary and results-oriented leadership earned her several EPA Medals for Commendable Service.

Prior to working for the EPA, Brookshire held several leadership roles at the SEC, including the agency’s first Deputy Performance Improvement Officer and Director for Strategic Planning, Performance, and Budget Formulation. She led organizational change efforts that improved operational effectiveness, and her accomplishments were recognized with numerous awards, including the SEC Business Innovation Award and the SEC Business Operations Award.

In addition to her official roles, Brookshire served on a Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board task force, was president of the AGA D.C. Chapter, and was a board member for nonprofit start-ups. Her achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including Finance and Investing’s Top 25 CFOs.

Brookshire holds several professional certifications, including a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics and a master’s degree in public administration, with a focus on public budgeting and finance.
