Communities across the nation came together to honor the enduring legacy of Dr. King on the 30th anniversary of MLK Day. MLK Day has served to encourage Americans to transform reflection into action by serving others and working toward building the Beloved Community.

Uniting Communities Through Service

AmeriCorps kickstarted MLK Day by joining The King Center’s CEO, Bernice King, at Hands On Atlanta. Together, they packed hygiene and meal kits for the community.

In Maryland, volunteers prepared meal kits for older adults, snack bags, and hygiene kits. They also gave out friendship bracelets for an upcoming Kindness Day event.

The Giants Community Fund’s AmeriCorps VISTA members joined forces with the Port of Oakland and Friends of Middle Shoreline to honor Dr. King’s legacy through impactful community action. Volunteers worked together to clean up and restore areas along the shoreline, fostering environmental stewardship and unity.

Four AmeriCorps programs united to make a meaningful impact at The Franciscan Center in Tampa. AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers collaborated on various service projects, including cleaning up debris to beautify the grounds. This joint effort highlighted the power of unity and community.

Volunteer Arlington celebrated their eighth annual MLK Day of Service by helping the community with care packages and cleaning the streets.
