AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers have the expectation and the right to serve in a safe environment, and to be treated with dignity and respect. AmeriCorps expects all program leaders and grantees to create safe service environments for our members and volunteers.

If you are experiencing a threat to your safety or security, and you are not comfortable discussing the matter with your program leaders, sponsor supervisors, or local law enforcement officials, you can contact our National Service Hotline at: 1-800-942-2677

Examples of Harassment Include:

  • Explicit or implicit demands for sexual favors.
  • Pressure for dates.
  • Deliberate touching, leaning over, or cornering.
  • Offensive teasing, jokes, remarks, or questions.
  • Letters, phone calls, or distribution or display of offensive materials.
  • Offensive leering, looks, or gestures.
  • Gender, racial, ethnic, or religious baiting.
  • Physical assaults or other threatening behavior.
  • Demeaning, debasing, or abusive comments, or actions that intimidate.
