The Public Lands Service Coalition (PLSC) is a group of Corps and other organizations the focuses on promoting and supporting youth service jobs and career development on public/tribal lands and waters. The purpose of this evaluation was to assess the impact of participating in a conservation corps program on intentions to gain additional education, confidence to gain employment and key targeted program outcomes (e.g., teamwork, leadership, etc.). Efforts were also made to assess the perceived quality of importance of core program components and processes.
The study found that:
- Statistically significant increases were observed across all outcome measures in contrast to the general population comparison group, which include community and environmental engagement, teamwork, leadership, self-responsibility, critical thinking and communication skills;
- On average, opportunities to gain new knowledge and skills were most important to corps participants;
- Opportunities to gain more education and the quality of provided equipment were perceived as less important.
