In 2014, the Office of Research and Evaluation (ORE) and AmeriCorps State and National (ASN) began an evaluation of grantee programs that engage opportunity youth (OY) as AmeriCorps members. The evaluation bundled 19 ASN programs into a single, collaboratively designed impact evaluation. The study assessed whether OY who participated in AmeriCorps showed greater improvements in education, employment, and civic engagement outcomes than comparison youth. While ASN OY were not more likely to show improvements on key outcomes than comparison youth, ASN OY showed improvements from pre-test to follow-up on a number of key outcomes, including high school completion and current employment, for example.
