AmeriCorps, Community Groups Mark AmeriCorps Week with Volunteer Service in Rockaways
200+ AmeriCorps members to participate in recovery efforts on Saturday
FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS, N.Y. – In partnership with New York Cares and NYC Service, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will close out the seventh annual AmeriCorps Week with a day of service in the Rockaways.
The event is designed to recognize the more than 2,400 AmeriCorps members who have been a part of Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts in affected areas like the Rockaways region.
CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer and Director of AmeriCorps Bill Basl will join the AmeriCorps members and other local representatives to participate in the service efforts. The project includes cleaning a damaged beach and repairing a daycare center.
