AUSTIN, Texas – On Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Lee Leffingwell will join the current and incoming presidents of the National League of Cities at an event at Austin City Hall to highlight the impact of national service on city challenges.
At a time of fiscal constraint, the nation’s mayors are increasingly turning to national service as a cost-effective strategy to address city problems. In Austin, more than 1,800 AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members serve at 265 sites, providing vital support in education, health, environmental protection, and economic development.
Mayor Leffingwell and other leading U.S. mayors will join more than 100 local AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members to make an announcement about the 2015 Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service.
