Acting Chief of Staff and Governor’s official to serve alongside AmeriCorps members supporting local needs and long-term disaster recovery efforts

Charleston, W.Va. – On Monday, March 6, as a part of AmeriCorps Week, Mikel Herrington, acting chief of staff for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), will serve as an AmeriCorps member for a day and witness long-term disaster recovery efforts firsthand. AmeriCorps week celebrates the contributions of all AmeriCorps programs, current AmeriCorps members, and more than 1 million AmeriCorps alumni who have pledged to get things done for America.

As of today, more than 300 AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers have responded to flood recovery efforts, with AmeriCorps VISTA members remaining on the ground to support long-term recovery in communities most affected.

CNCS is a federal agency that engages millions of Americans in service through its AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Social Innovation Fund, and other programs, and leads the nation’s volunteering and service efforts. For more information, visit NationalService.gov.

Herrington will be joined by Heather Foster, the executive director of the Governor’s Volunteer West Virginia, to serve alongside AmeriCorps members and meet with national service partners on the ground. Details of the service projects are listed below.
