Back in 2017, Oregon ranked third behind Utah and Minnesota for formal volunteering with an estimated 43.2% of Oregonians who "spent any time volunteering for any organization or association." But that helpful spirit then plummeted hitting bottom in 2021 during the pandemic when only about 28% of state residents volunteered for organizations.

Now the latest data for 2023 shows the volunteering rate bounced back to 35.7% in 2023, up almost eight percentage points and ranking 10th in the nation. Read more in the Portland Business Journal.
