Statement from CEO Barbara Stewart on the final report by the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency for volunteering, service, and civic engagement, issued the following statement on the final report by the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service. 

“The Commission was given the tremendous task of examining the systems that engage millions of Americans in service and identifying new ways to unleash the extraordinary power of service to meet national needs and strengthen our democracy. They have produced a significant, comprehensive report with many thoughtful recommendations, and I commend them not only on their effort but also on their thorough, substantive approach.

We are grateful for the exhaustive work of the Commission to examine service in all of its forms. Their recommendations will serve as a starting point for a national discussion about how service can grow in a way that positively impacts communities across the country.

We know that service is an enduring American value and believe in a vision that inspires and encourages more of our citizens to serve.
