FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jul 20, 2007

Dear Colleagues,

The House of Representatives completed action yesterday on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, which includes funding for Corporation for National and Community Service programs.

The $607 billion Labor-HHS Appropriations bill would provide $151.7 billion in discretionary spending, $10.8 billion more than requested by President Bush, and a $7.1 billion increase over fiscal 2007 levels.

Representatives did not agree to three amendments that would have affected the Corporation’s budget -- two that would have reduced AmeriCorps funding, and one that would have raised the spending level.

The bill now moves to the Senate, where floor action will not occur until after the August recess.

A copy of the bill, HR 3043, and the accompanying House Report 110-231, can be found on the Corporation’s website, along with other budget-related materials, at http://www.nationalservice.gov/about/role_impact/budget.asp.

In Service,

David Eisner
