The Corporation for National and Community Service joins the nation in mourning the passing of Sen. Thad Cochran. His distinguished service to his home state of Mississippi and our nation during his five decades on Capitol Hill will be remembered fondly by those he represented as their champion.

We were honored to have his support for our programs and initiatives through words and deeds as a former co-chair and longtime member of the National Service Congressional Caucus. His leadership promoted bipartisan support for national service and volunteerism, and we are proud to have the Magnolia State as the host of one of our four AmeriCorps NCCC campuses in Vicksburg, which has trained thousands who served across the United States.

On behalf of CNCS and the national service family, I send my best wishes to his family in their time of sorrow.
