Michael D. Smith also visited New Jersey for student success partnership with Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona


WASHINGTON, D.C. – Michael D. Smith, AmeriCorps CEO, joined local and federal leaders for the United We Stand Summitin Washington, D.C. and National Partnership for Student Success bus tour in New Jersey.

On September 15, Smith participated in the White House’s United We Stand Summit, a Biden-Harris Administration gathering to honor communities addressing recent tragedies and the launch of a new initiatives focused on a whole-of-society approach for improved public safety. The summit highlighted the administration’s response to hate-fueled violence and put forward a shared, bipartisan vision for a more united America. During the summit, President Biden called on Americans to unite through national service and volunteerism directing them to Serve.Gov andSmith delivered remarks about the importance of uniting Americans through national service to prevent and recover from violence.

On September 16,Smith joined Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in Camden, NJ on the Road to Success bus tour. Smith joined a discussion focused on the importance of people-powered, evidence-based student support. Smith and Cardona then met with students at Camden High School to discuss support for student learning and well-being in and out of the classroom through tutors, coaches, teachers and other evidence-based mentorship roles. They also met with National Partnership for Student Success champions who play a vital role in helping schools and school districts launch, expand, and improve programs dedicated to student success.
