Goren to Deliver Remarks on National MLK Day of Service Initiative During Virtual Town Hall

Washington, DC – Nicola Goren, the Acting CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will deliver remarks during a national virtual town hall and join Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to help beautify a Washington D.C. middle school to mark this year's Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Goren will provide highlights of the national day of service and the Corporation's efforts to facilitate the nation's largest volunteer mobilization initiative during a virtual town hall sponsored by the HandsOn Network. The town hall will also feature otherinterviews, dialogues,and service events happening in seven cities across the country. Goren is appearing at 10:05 am. At Ron Brown Middle School, Goren and Secretary Duncan will join more than five hundred volunteers to repaint and build benches for the school's courtyard, as well as assemble transitional housing kits and package food items for a local shelter. The service project is being held by City Year, one of the Corporation's AmeriCorps grantees. MLK Day Ambassadors Byron Cage, award-wining gospel artist and Seth Goldman, President and TeaEO, Honest Tea Beverage Company, will also participate in service project.

The Corporation has led the MLK Day of Service since 1994, and anticipates a strong volunteer turnout this year, with more than 10,000 service projects planned in all 50 states addressing a multitude of social issues from poverty to hunger and the dropout crisis.
