National Service CEO to Address Council on Foundations, Meet with AmeriCorps NCCC Members in Denver
Washington, DC – Patrick Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will travel to Denver, CO, on his first field visit since taking the helm of the national service agency in February. His activities during the trip include an address on civilian national service to the Council on Foundations, a tour of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps' (NCCC) Denver campus, and a site visit to the Denver Children's Home, where a team of eleven NCCC members are serving.
For more than six weeks, the NCCC members have worked with disadvantaged youth at the Denver Children's Home, providing mentoring, tutoring and job preparation services to help the residents transition into post-secondary education and the workforce. Denver Children's Home – the oldest nonprofit in Colorado – serves 100 children and families on a daily basis (over 5000 in 2008) that struggle with the effects of poverty, abuse, neglect, and exposure to violence.
Corvington will also meet with Colorado Lieutenant Governor Barbara O'Brien and the Commissioners of Colorado's Commission on Community Service.
