Central College will waive the admission application fee for AmeriCorps or VISTA education award recipients when applicants make an official campus visit through the admission office. Central College will offer a Community Service Award to match 100% of the education award over a four year period (25% per year) of full-time attendance as a degree-seeking student for students who demonstrate financial need that is not covered by other gift assistance. Central College will offer a Community Service Award to match 50% of the education award over a four year period (12.5% per year) of full-time study for students who do not demonstrate financial need or for whom the financial need has been met with other gift assistance. In no case will the total gift assistance provided by Central College exceed full tuition. Additionally recipients may qualify for up to 2 semester hours of class credit for one year of completed AmeriCorps service.
The Community Service Award will be in addition to the scholarship level for which the student qualifies.
Class credit will be based on specific criteria approved by the Curriculum Committee. Cheri Doane is willing to develop class credit criteria for the Curriculum Committee’s review.
This policy applies to AmeriCorps or VISTA service that is completed prior to enrollment at Central College.
