"I am a retired engineer, a US Army veteran, and a former Peace Corps volunteer. For the past 15 years, I have been volunteer tutoring high school mathematics to adults seeking a GED high school equivalency diploma. These are folks who never completed high school for various reasons. Most are women, minorities, or immigrants. Additionally, over the internet, I have tutored refugees from the wars in Syria and Ukraine, students whose education has been interrupted by war. This work keeps me connected to people who have faced or are facing significant obstacles in their lives. It is a tremendous joy that adds purpose and satisfaction to my life."
