This year, we celebrate AmeriCorps Seniors Retired & Senior Volunteer Program’s 50th Anniversary. Over the past five decades, millions of RSVP volunteers improved communities across the United States. The older adults serving in RSVP are dedicated to solving problems in their local communities. Our volunteers provide more than $1 billion worth of service to the nation each year, driven by motivation to give back, improve their communities and leave a legacy. 

AmeriCorps helps tackle the nation’s public health needs

On April 6, 2022, AmeriCorps announced its inaugural Public Health AmeriCorps grantees as part of their historic partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Public Health AmeriCorps supports recruitment, training, and development of a new generation of leaders. AmeriCorps members will help address the nation’s public health needs and health inequities.

Communities of Strength through Service

COVID-19 has changed so much of how we live, work, and connect with each other. We have had to adjust in unprecedented ways to protect ourselves and those around us. The pandemic has had a tremendous impact on older adults, who found themselves distanced from family, friends, services, and other supports. Despite these extraordinary challenges, older adults throughout the nationwide aging services network have found ways to safely volunteer and serve, providing invaluable support to their communities.

Heather Baily Named an Honorary AmeriCorps Member

Using her experience as a service alumna and expertise in public health to answer Governor Jared Polis (Colo.) call for service-based contact tracing program, Heather Baily was instrumental in leading the public health needs for the Colorado COVID Containment Corps. To date, her efforts have reached 900 members and volunteers from all four AmeriCorps signature programs (State and National, VISTA, NCCC, and AmeriCorps Seniors) and served more than 50,000 Coloradans.

Vice President, Second Gentleman Visit Sites Where AmeriCorps is ‘Here to Help’

On March 22, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff continued the Biden Administration’s ‘Help is Here’ tour with stops in Jacksonville, Fla. and Des Moines, Iowa.

In each of these locations, AmeriCorps members stand alongside neighbors and community leaders responding to COVID-19, just as they are across the country. AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers are on the ground, delivering aid where it’s needed, and helping vaccinate thousands throughout Florida.
