AmeriCorps is Not a Moment. It's a Movement.
Three decades ago, more than 20,000 Americans raised their right hands and pledged to get things done for America. These members helped more than 1,000 communities nationwide during their first year of service. Since then, more than 1.3 million Americans and hundreds of thousands more AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers of all backgrounds have followed in their footsteps, providing billions of hours of results-driven service across each of the 50 states and US territories.
In times of tragedy and triumph, when America calls, AmeriCorps answers. Whether it’s AmeriCorps members stepping forward to help after 9/11, aiding in recovery from disasters like Hurricane Katrina over the course of decades, or pivoting to address the urgent needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic, AmeriCorps knows how to get things done for America and has been turning moments of impact into a national service movement throughout the years.

A Message from President Biden
"For 30 years, AmeriCorps members and volunteers have been on the front lines of confronting our country's greatest challenges. Whether they are supporting schools in underserved communities, rebuilding after natural disasters, making our people and our planet healthier, or serving the most vulnerable among us-including veterans and seniors-AmeriCorps members and volunteers are a constant reminder of the resilience, kindness, and compassion of our nation."
Stories of National Service
Rob, AmeriCorps 1994
"My decision to join AmeriCorps also stemmed from knowing that this was an opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. For 18 years, I had never lived outside my home state of Kentucky. I thought AmeriCorps would be a unique experience to meet new people, travel, and serve my country. And it was."
Wonder what national service looked like nearly 30 years ago? Find out from Rob, an alum who served in the very first class of AmeriCorps after graduating high school.
