MTV Personalities Including “The Buried Life’s” Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie,

Join forces to Recognize Leaders of the Youth Volunteerism Movement

New York, NY, June 24, 2010 – MTV, TeenNick, The Corporation for National and Community Service, and Shell today announced they’re teaming up to spotlight the extraordinary efforts of our nation’s youth service leaders in the “It’s Up to Us! 2010 NCVS Youth Forum” on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Held in conjunction with the National Conference on Volunteering and Service (NCVS), the nation’s largest gathering of volunteer leaders and service experts, the two-hour summit will give over 150 young people a platform alongside leaders from the national service movement and the Obama and Bloomberg administrations, to connect, discuss and generate new ideas to expand the youth service movement.

"Millennials are inheriting bigger challenges than any seen in generations, but instead of putting these problems off until tomorrow, young people are attacking them head on -- through global, national and community service," said Stephen Friedman, General Manager of MTV. "We're inspired by the spirit of service that pulses through this generation and proud to celebrate the young leaders of the volunteerism movement."

MTV News Correspondent Sway Calloway will kick-off the evening event as emcee, and Ben Nemtin from MTV’s “The Buried Life” will join youth service leaders from Usher’s New Look and Learn and Serve America for an in-depth discussion about volunteerism in America, honing in on how we can inspire others to embrace the spirit of community service. Additionally, Patrick Corvington, CEO of The Corporation, will unveil a new video featuring a platinum selling, Grammy Award-winning artist who will be the new face of President Obama’s national call to service – United We Serve. At the end of the evening, Rhythm City from MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew” will reward these young activists with an electrifying performance to wrap up the forum, and the entire cast of “The Buried Life” will be on hand, encouraging young people to continue to give back to their communities.

The “It’s Up to Us! 2010 NCVS Youth Forum” is held in conjunction with the 2010 National Conference on Volunteering and Service, held in New York City on June 28-30, 2010. Convened by the Corporation for National and Community Service and Points of Light Institute, the annual conference is the world’s largest gathering of service and volunteer leaders. The June 2010 conference, also convened by the local host committee – chaired by New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, NYC Service and New Yorkers Volunteer, is expected to draw record attendance of more than 5,000 people. This year's theme — It’s Up to You — recognizes that everyone has the power to make a difference, and that our nation’s progress and prosperity depend on the active involvement of citizens. It challenges service leaders to increase the impact of their programs, and to all Americans to roll up their sleeves and participate in rebuilding our country. Top speakers at the conference include New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg; Arne Duncan, US Secretary of Education; Melody Barnes, Director of White House Domestic Policy Council; Barbara Bush, Co-Founder of Global Health Corps; and “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver.

The youth forum is part of a long-term collaboration between MTV and the Corporation to raise awareness about the transformative powers of volunteering on the nation’s youth and the communities that they serve. The network supported the Corporation’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in January, which galvanized more than one million Americans in service.
