Veterans currently serving in U.S. Congress call on more Americans to serve

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This Veterans Day, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will honor all veterans, including those veterans who serve through its AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs, as well as national service members who support veterans and military families.

This effort includes a call to serve by Members of Congress, all military veterans themselves who understand the important role service has both abroad and on the homefront. Led by CNCS, PSAs by Congressman Scott Taylor (VA-02), Congressman Don Bacon (NE-02), Congressman Ron DeSantis (FL-06), and Congressman Jack Bergman (MI-01) call on Americans to serve and support our nation through service in AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs.

Each year, Senior Corps and AmeriCorps members assist more than 750,000 veterans and military families in VA clinics and hospitals, nonprofits and public agencies, and veterans’ services organizations. These members connect veterans to employment and education services, provide job counseling, offer transportation to medical appointments, mentor and tutor children of military families, and more.

In addition, more than 23,500 veteran AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members serve their local communities, applying leadership and other skills acquired during military service. These national service members serve as mentors, companions, and tutors, as well as build homes and respond to disasters, including the recent wildfires in the Western U.S. and in hurricane-impacted communities in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands.
