Dear National Service Colleagues,

The eSPAN, eGrants and AmeriCorps Portal will be migrating to our new Managed Data Center Services contractor. In preparation for this enhancement, our systems- including My AmeriCorps, eGrants and eSpan- will be unavailable from Friday, November 13 at 8:00 PM EDT until Monday, November 16 at 8:00 AM EDT.

This migration will improve the overall system by removing the environmental issues (electricity) that have made these systems become unavailable from time to time.

ATLANTA – Points of Light Institute and the Corporation for National and Community Service announced today that the 2010 National Conference on Volunteering and Service will be held in New York City, June 28-30. This event is the nation's largest convening on service and civic engagement and will bring together more than 4,000 volunteer and service leaders and social entrepreneurs from around the world.

Last Friday, President Obama signed a continuing resolution which will fund the Corporation for National and Community Service and various other federal agencies and programs at Fiscal 2009 levels through December 18, 2009.

Earlier this month, I joined the President in New Orleans for his first visit there since the election. A key part of the President's message was that the Gulf Coast's recovery didn't flow just from government programs and policies:

Washington, DC—The Corporation for National and Community Service has released a funding notice for its 2010 Learn and Serve America “Summer of Service” grants competition, implementing a new program authorized under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The new grant funding – totaling $1 million dollars – will support innovative summer-time service-learning programs for students grades 6 through 9.

Washington, DC—Stephen Goldsmith, Interim Board Chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service, participated in a panel discussion at the Hudson Institute today on the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) authorized under the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. Goldsmith described the Fund “as a catalyst to spur additional investments” in innovative results-oriented solutions that have the potential to address pressing social problems and help transform lives and communities.

First Lady Applauds Service-Learning as Key to Shaping Future Leaders

Washington, DC—Nearly 80,000 students, parents and teachers from across 34 states participated in 178 events that marked the close of the week-long launch of the 3rd Annual Learn & Serve Challenge. The Challenge, led by the Corporation for National and Community Service and 100 national organizations, will continue through the remainder of the school year with the goal of engaging 1 million more students in service-learning.
