Agency Kicks Off Participation in 100 Hiring Our Heroes Career Fairs Over 5 Years

Washington, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service today announced its participation in 100 Hiring Our Heroes job fairs over the next five years, part of the federal agency’s commitment to recruit more veterans and military families to lead national service initiatives that solve problems and strengthen our communities.

WASHINGTON, DC – Tomorrow, Thursday, December 15th, ten local leaders who are helping to give back to their community will be honored at the White House as Champions of Change. These men and women, who include non-profit leaders, community activists and mentors, have each taken great strides to improve the lives of others through charitable work, faith and advocacy.

Outstanding Volunteers to be Honored with President's Drum Major for Service Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – As the 26th anniversary of Martin Luther King Day approaches, the White House and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) are joining forces to recognize outstanding volunteers nationwide with the MLK Drum Majors for Service program.

Washington, DC – As communities across Vermont continue to recover and rebuild from the catastrophic flooding caused byHurricane Irene, a team of 10 AmeriCorps NCCC members has chosen to extend their term of service and deploy to Windsor County, Vt. to assist with the disaster relief and flood recovery efforts.

To date, 40 AmeriCorps NCCC members have served more than 6,290 hours in Vermont responding to Hurricane Irene, service valued at more than $134,000 according to Independent Sector's estimate of the value of volunteer time.

Washington, D.C. – As part of the official kick-off for the 2012 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the Corporation for National and Community Service joined the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for discussion on the role that institutions of higher education play in stimulating local economies.
