Out of 6,000 submissions, 18 Americans Awarded Civilian Honor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seventy Members of the Sacramento-based AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) will leave this week for the East Coast as part of the nationwide national service response to Hurricane Sandy.
Washington, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced that approximately 877 national service members have been deployed to seven states affected by Hurricane Sandy, with nearly 900 more individuals on standby for assignments in the hardest-hit areas.
National service members are assisting with shelter operations, call centers, debris removal, and mass care in response to Hurricane Sandy in Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

Today, the U.S. Department of Education and the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) recognized 24 organizations from across the nation as Together for Tomorrow (TFT) Challenge winners for the 2012-2013 school year. Together for Tomorrow is a joint initiative of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships together with the U.S. Department of Education and CNCS, that recognizes community-led partnership to support struggling schools.
