Washington, DC – Chief Operating Officer for the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), Robert Velasco, issued the following statement in response to the agency’s Office of Inspector General’s audit of the American Samoa Special Services Commission (ASSSC). The audit found serious problems in many aspects of ASSSC’s administration of CNCS’s programs.

Washington, DC — The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) today announced a funding opportunity to accelerate the success of service-learning programs in federally-recognized Indian Tribes and U.S. Territories. Anticipating approximately $650,000 in new funding, CNCS expects to award three to four new grants under its Learn and Serve America program to enhance and expand existing service-learning programs, and develop new service-learning opportunities in tribal communities.

Today, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) announced that is has discovered and corrected access vulnerabilities in the My AmeriCorps portal website that may have created the potential for others to view personal information of program applicants and participants. The vulnerabilities, which date back to 2006, would not have caused personal information to be exposed in the normal operation of the portal.
