Hundreds of service projects to honor 9-11 victims’ memory and celebrate heroes

Washington, D.C. — Patrick A. Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-09) will hold a “Service as a Solution” Roundtable discussion on September 7 at the East Bay Community Foundation at 10 am. Immediately following the roundtable, the officials will hold a photo opportunity and press availability.

Washington, D.C. — The Corporation for National and Community Service today kicked off its 2011 AmeriCorps grant competition by releasing two funding notices for organizations interested in using national service as a solution to critical problems facing our communities and our nation.

Funds to Shore-Up Gulf States’ Disaster Preparedness, Response to BP Oil Spill

New Orleans, LA—The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded its Volunteer Generation Fund grants totaling $4 million to 19 U.S. state service commissions to better recruit, manage, and retain volunteers to address pressing social challenges. 

Washington, DC—Julie Fisher Cummings, Board Member of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will meet with area nonprofit leaders tomorrow, August 25, to discuss ways that national service is addressing local challenges. The meeting will be held at the Focus: HOPE Conference Center at 10 a.m. ET, tomorrow.

Official to Observe Local Service Project Successes

Washington, DC—Julie Fisher Cummings, Board Member of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will meet with area nonprofit leaders Thursday, August 26 to discuss ways that national service is addressing local challenges. Cummings will also visit the Family Service Agency of Genesee County to observe how intergenerational service strengthens communities.

New Orleans, LA—The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded its Volunteer Generation Fund grants totaling $4 million to 19 U.S. state service commissions to better recruit, manage, and retain volunteers to address pressing social challenges. 

Washington, DC—The Corporation for National and Community Service awarded its new Nonprofit Capacity Building Program grants totaling $1 million to increase the capacity of nonprofits to improve lives in communities facing economic hardships. The two-year grants were awarded to five organizations to build and implement performance management systems to help achieve greater results for nonprofits in diverse communities.
