M. Speaker, I rise today in full support of House Resolution 1338, which recognizes the substantial contributions of AmeriCorps.
Since 1994, AmeriCorps programs have engaged over 570,000 individuals of all ages in national service programs, totaling 705 million hours of service to our nation.

M. Speaker, I rise today in support of House Resolution 1338, which recognizes the significant accomplishments of AmeriCorps Volunteers… and helps raise awareness about the importance of national and community service.
Members Respond to Tornadoes, Floods and Oil Spill
Washington, DC—Nearly 150 AmeriCorps members are responding to natural disasters that have wreaked havoc in communities throughout the country – from the floods in Tennessee to the tornado in Mississippi and the oil spill in the Gulf Coast.
Washington, DC—Patrick Corvington, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will join former AmeriCorps VISTA members U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller (WV) and Representative Gwen Moore (WI) to honor the legacy and accomplishments of the program at a reception on Capitol Hill. The reception will be held on May 12 in 106 Dirksen SOB at 5:30 p.m.

Washington DC – The Corporation for National and Community Service is asking the public to help tell the AmeriCorps story and recruit the next class of AmeriCorps members by participating in the 2010 AmeriCorps Video and Photo contest that is part of AmeriCorps Week.
Washington, DC—The Corporation for National and Community Service announces the availability of $5.4 million in grants to establish Youth Engagement Zones, as called for by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. The purpose of the new initiative is to encourage collaborative community problem solving that increases students' academic and civic engagement while improving the odds that they will stay in school and graduate from high school.
Denver, CO—An AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) wildland-firefighting team has been deployed to Kentucky to battle blazes in the Daniel Boone National Forest. The four NCCC members, who are based in Denver, have fought three different fires since they arrived in the area over the weekend, performing initial attack, night operations, mop-up, holding and containment assignments.
