Dear Colleagues,

I’m very pleased and excited to announce that President Obama has announced his intention to nominate Ms. Maria Eitel to serve as the Corporation’s new CEO.

Ms. Eitel currently serves as the president of the Nike Foundation and as a vice president of Nike Inc. As the foundation’s first president, she has led an initiative to increase opportunities for the world’s most disadvantaged girls.

Dear Colleagues,

President Obama is expected to sign the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act into law in the coming days. This is a very exciting time for the Corporation and the entire national service and voluntary sector, representing both the culmination of years of hard work and the start of a new era of national service in America.

Washington, DC - Public service announcements released today by the Corporation for National and Community Service are designed to encourage teachers, students, and parents to bring service-learning into their schools and communities.

Last night the Senate passed a bill close to the President’s heart, we asked Carlos Monje Jr., Senior Policy Advisor at the Domestic Policy Council to go explain what it meant a little more in-depth:

We had an exciting day in the White House yesterday. The Senate passed legislation to dramatically expand service opportunities for Americans of all ages. By an overwhelming vote of 79-19, the Senate approved the Edward M. Kennedy National Service Act, a bill that will take the next quantum leap in national service.
