Seventh-annual Senior Corps Week – May 15-19 – honors RSVP, Foster Grandparent, and Senior Companion volunteers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that oversees Senior Corps, will celebrate the critical contributions older volunteers make across the country during the seventh annual Senior Corps Week, taking place May 15-19 during Older Americans Month.

Those participating, including city, county, and tribal leaders, represent 194 million Americans, nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – More than 4,520 mayors, county officials, and tribal leaders will participate in a nationwide effort to recognize the impact of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps during the fifth-annual Mayor, County, and Tribal Recognition Day for National Service. Together, these elected officials represent 194 million citizens, nearly two-thirds of the U.S. population.

Thank you for inviting me to testify today.  I share the Committee’s view that our agency has a responsibility to ensure federal funds are well-managed and welcome this opportunity to discuss our commitment to strong risk management and prudent stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

My written testimony details our comprehensive risk management framework and the multiple steps we have taken since the Subcommittee hearing last year.  I will summarize them now.

Nearly 300 national service members assisted in recovery operations

Grants support children and young people with special needs across the state

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps, today announced more than $1.4 million in funding for new Senior Corps programs in Wisconsin. This funding, awarded to 10 local organizations, will support more than 350 Foster Grandparent volunteers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that administers AmeriCorps, announced the first resources deployed to support the response to the severe storms and tornadoes that tore through Mississippi, Georgia, and other southern states. In total, more than three dozen AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members are actively responding, with additional deployments pending and all AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams on standby.
