This year, thousands of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds joined their neighbors in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to build affordable housing for veterans and military families, prepare care packages for military service members, revitalize schools, educate citizens on disaster preparedness, organize food drives, and more.
The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of efforts started by 9/11 family members and support groups to establish the service day as a way to honor victims and heroes of 9/11. CNCS leads this nationwide effort that pays tribute to and honors the victims and heroes of that day.

West Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Minnesota take the top three spots in the states category. Baltimore, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and New Orleans claim the highest slots in the large-cities listing, with Provo, Utah, Lowell, Mass., and Providence, R.I. ranking highest among small cities.

Three FEMA Corps teams will work with survivors of the recent volcanic eruption and earthquakes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three teams of AmeriCorps members have been deployed to Hawaii to join assistance efforts for survivors of the recent Kilauea volcanic eruption and earthquakes in Hilo, Hawaii. The 20 young people, all of whom serve through FEMA Corps, a unit of AmeriCorps NCCC, departed for the island on Saturday from Jackson, Miss.
